In a concrete floor comprising a compression layer and spaced ribs reinforced by prefabricated girders 14, Fig. 1, which also support flanged ceiling panels 11, shuttering members 18 of inverted U-shape are sprung into dovetail grooves 15 in the panels 11 and are closed by end panels such as 21, Fig. 4. The members 18, 21 may be of hard fibreboard, cardboard synthetic plastics or sheet metal. The end panel 21 shown has tongues engaging dovetail slots in the member 18 & panel 11. In modifications the end panel may have inturned flanges gripping the member 18, or may be held by clips. Thick supporting slabs, e.g. of pumice concrete or clay, Fig. 2 (not shown) may be used as end panels and may be placed at intervals in the hollow space between the panel 11 and the roof of the member 18. The panels 11 may be of concrete, clay, sand-lime bricks or other material, may have cavities 19, and may be reinforced. One of the cavities may be shaped as shown at 32, Fig. 6, to provide a breakage line 33 for forming a narrow flanged panel. In Fig. 6 two narrow members 181 are provided for each panel 111; in a modification a single narrow member 18 is placed centrally over the panel 11. In a further modification the panel 11 has dovetail grooves on both faces, one on the lower face receiving battens carrying a plaster support surface. The edges of the members 18 may be wedge-shaped to provide a positive connection with the dovetail grooves.
