The patent of invention application relates to devices which rapidly bring about freezing in a marine environment. It comprises a cryogenic cannister 1 made from a refrigerant mixture composed of solid carbon dioxide (carbonic acid), solid hydrocarbon and expanded polystyrene, the whole thing being in the powdered state and at a very low temperature, bringing about the formation of low density ice connected to an underwater device 8 operating on the hot air balloon principle, the raising force of which comes from gas and low density liquid. The device allows the exploitation of polymetallic nodules, the raising of wreckage (jetsam) and fight against pollution by hydrocarbons, particularly by the solidification of the crude oil escaping from a torn hull of an oil tanker. <IMAGE>
