Production of polymer particles of uniform size and shape, comprises applying electromagnetic radiation to the surface of a polymer sheet to alter its physical properties and produce lines of weakness in it. The sheet is then separated along these lines to produce the particles. An Independent claim is included for apparatus for altering the physical properties of polymer sheet (1) by irradiating with electromagnetic radiation comprising a device for moving the sheet past a radiation source (5) and a mirror for reflecting the beam or a concave (7) and convex (8) lens and grid (9) arranged between it and the sheet.
