PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader with a toner eliminating function having high convenience and an enhanced job efficiency where expense in the time and effort required for a conventional single function machine such as setting operations for reading and toner elimination processing, setting of an original and carrying is minimized. SOLUTION: The image reader makes the read function and the toner eliminating function composite and eliminates toner after reading by a series of operations. A control section 1 of the image reader receiving a command of reading/toner elimination processing conditions set by a PC via an external I/F 8 activates an image input section 5 and an image processing section 6, gives acquired image data to the PC being a processing request source, checks necessity of the toner elimination processing after the end of reading of an original, gives the original to an input side of a toner elimination processing section 7, and discharges recycled white paper after the toner elimination processing when the toner elimination processing is needed. The image reader checks abnormity in the read operation, inadequate read image and mixing of white original and conducts toner elimination cancellation and stop control.
