摘要 1,148,987. Fuel batteries. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 10 Oct., 1966 [12 Oct., 1965], No. 45233/66. Heading H1B. In a fuel battery with cells separated alternately by fuel and oxidant spaces the electrodes comprise a porous electronically non-conductive substrate, a current collector directly united to the substrate, a terminal strip extending outwardly from the current collector, and an electrocatalyst overlying a portion of the current collector. Preferably the electrocatalyst is supported by a porous conductive material overlying the current collector. The porous substrate can be a porous synthetic resin, a fibre mat or an ion exchange membrane. As shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the repeating unit B of a battery consists of two electrolyte-electrode assemblies 33, an oxidant frame 3 and a fuel frame 4. In the assemblies 33 the porous substrate 34 to which the current collectors 11 are directly united serves as a matrix for the electrolyte, the electrocatalyst 36 being supported on a porous or particulate conducting layer 35. In another embodiment, Fig. 9, the repeating unit comprises electrodes 113a, 113b, separate electrolyte frames 112, fuel frame 114b and oxidant frame 114a. Each electrode (Fig. 8, not shown) comprises two current collecting grids 105 with terminal strips 108 carried by tabs 116. Connections are formed by bending tabs 116 over so that strips 108 are on the external surfaces of the tabs. Blank tabs 119a, 119b provide uniform unit thickness at any tab position. Reactant and electrolyte ducts are formed by the assembly of gaskets 120, 125, fuel entering and leaving the fuel space via ports 124, the oxidant ducts having ports 122 and the electrolyte ducts ports 123. Tie-bolts holding the completed battery together pass through the oxidant, electrolyte and fuel ducts.
