To improve its sealing ability and reduce its frictional resistance, a O-ring (1) has very fine irregularities (2) on its surface. A mould for producing the O-ring comprises an upper mould part (3) and a lower mould part (4). The mould parts (3, 4) are produced by a process in which, first of all, annular moulding grooves (5, 6) are formed in the mating surfaces of the mould parts (3, 4), each having a semicircular cross-section corresponding to the shape of the upper or lower half of the circular cross-section of the O-ring (1), a certain grinding edge (t) is in each case provided, very fine irregularities are formed on the surfaces of the mould grooves (5, 6), and the mating surfaces of the two mould parts (3, 4) are then ground off to the depth (t) of the edge in order to shape the cross-sections of the mould parts (3, 4) in such a way that they are exactly semicircular. <IMAGE>
