GLASS COMPOSITION AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared and ultraviolet absorbing soda-lime-silica glass of a neutral tint. SOLUTION: The infrared and ultraviolet soda-lime-silica glass of a neutral tint contains iron together with Se and Co3O4, where the total iron expressed as Fe2O3is 0.3-0.7 wt.% and the ratio of a ferrous iron vs. the total iron is 21-34%. An addition of NiO and TiO2is allowable. The resulting glass with a thickness of 4 mm has a visible light transmission of at least 70% and a direct solar heat energy transmission of by at least 12% lower than the visible light transmission. The iron in the glass is preferably provided by adding the mineral wustite into the glass batch mix. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
