The procedure for fine machining workpiece surfaces is a honing procedure carried out in at least two steps. In one of the steps of the procedure, the surface (6), for example the wall of a bore, is finish-honed to the intended final size, in the course of which a very fine structure with a very small depth of the honing marks is produced so that a large portion of the surface acts in a load-bearing manner. In another step of the procedure, which can be carried out before or after the finish-honing, intersecting grooves (9) are produced according to a predetermined pattern by means of a radiation device, in particular of a laser, in order to obtain a lubricant reservoir for the subsequent use of the workpiece. Since no deformations occur at the edges of the grooves during this radiation treatment, the intersection points (10) also remain free of material particles so that optimum distribution of the lubricant results. <IMAGE> |
