PURPOSE: A color cathode ray tube is provided to improve white uniformity, purity redundancy, and doming redundancy by optimizing a width of a black matrix. CONSTITUTION: A width of a black matrix of a fluorescent screen is formed by a predetermined relationship from a center of the fluorescent screen to a direction of a short axis. The predetermined relationship is y=ax+b where y is the width of the black matrix to the short axis direction, x is a distance from the center of the fluorescent screen to the short axis direction, a is -1.932E-4<=a<=-1.420E-4, and b is the width of the black matrix in the center of the fluorescent screen. The width of the black matrix of the fluorescent screen is formed by a predetermined relationship from a center of the fluorescent screen to a direction of a long axis. The predetermined relationship is B<b <C where b is the width of the black matrix at the center of the fluorescent screen, B is the width of the black matrix at a point of 1/2 to 2/3 of the distance between the center of the fluorescent screen and an end of the long axis, and C is the width of the black matrix at an end portion of the long axis.
