Prepn. of 5-(alkyl-alkylidene) 1,3-cyclopentadiene consists of mixing of cyclopentadiene with an alkyl ketone and reacting the mixt. on the strongly. Also claimed is the installation for effecting the process. Pref. the dehydrated resin has a basicity of 0.05-1.2 molar equiv. (more pref. 0.05-1.0) of available OH ions relative to cyclopentadiene. The resin is pre-dried or hydrated to the desired water content.
