<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a frozen field from a video signal subjected to analog encoding. SOLUTION: The method acquires a video signal (30) as a digital video signal (32). Every field of the digital video signal and its n-th subsequent field are selected as a pair (34). The pairs of the selected fields are compared to obtain a difference between the paired fields (36). Whether or not the difference is substantially zero is discriminated (38), and if the difference is substantially zero, a frozen field presence is indicated in the video signal (40).
