ACETANILIDE DERIVATIVE AND FRESHNESS-KEEPING AGENT FOR CUT FLOWER CONTAINING THE DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE:To provide an acetanilide derivative useful as a safe and effective agent for keeping the freshness of cut flower. CONSTITUTION:The acetanilide derivative of formula I [R<1> and R<2> are H, lower alkyl or halogen; R<3> is H or side chain of alpha-amino acid; R<4> and R<5> are group of formula II to formula VI (R is H or lower alkyl) together with N bonded therewith], e.g. 2,5-dioxo-3-pyrroline-1-(2,6-dimethyl)acetanilide. The compound can be produced by condensing an amino acid derivative of formula VII with an aniline derivative of formula VIII by a mixed acid anhydride method. The compound can be used as a freshness-keeping agent for cut flower in the form of powder or solution, however, it is usually used as an aqueous solution containing the compound of formula I as an active component at a concentration of 1-1,000ppm, preferably 10-500ppm.
