PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance image quality while shortening the recording time. SOLUTION: A carrier 4 mounted with recording head is coupled with the belt 3 of a belt/pulley mechanism to perform linear reciprocal motion. A drive pulley is coupled directly with the rotary shaft of a DC motor 1 and a rotary encoder is also coupled rigidly with the rotary shaft such that a rotary displacement can be measured. Linear motion of the carrier is detected by means of a linear encoder 5. The motor is fed with power through power amplifier 6. Output signal from the rotary encoder 20 is converted into an analog quantity through a frequency/voltage converting element, i.e., an FVC 19a. The analog quantity is fed back to a power supply system through a tacho-compensator 17.
