PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic wire feeder for a wire electric discharge machine that can guide a wire electrode stably to a drawing roller by means of a guiding water flow with water flow intensity adjusted according to the feed state of the wire electrode. SOLUTION: The intensity of a guiding water flow W supplied from the periphery of a guide roller 29 into a guide pipe 31 is weakened until a wire electrode 1 reaches the guide pipe 31, to thus guide the tip of the wire electrode 1 stably about the guide roller 29 without trouble where, for example, a too strong guiding water flow stirs the wire electrode tip to cause it to be entrained about the guide roller 29. The intensity of the guiding water flow W is controlled so as to be increased when the wire electrode 1 is detected entering the guide pipe 31, so that even if fed at high speed, the wire electrode 1 is stably led by the strong guiding water flow through the guide pipe 31 until passed to drawing rollers 32.
