The fitting is for use with a door knob. It is formed by a circular plate with a central hole (23) for fitting onto a stepped end of the operating spindle and incorporating a catch (11) which is moved radially. The catch fits into a groove around a part of the stepped end in its innermost position. The catch is secured in its engaged position by a leaf spring (37) inciinside the housing of the plate. It has a groove with sloping sides (18) which enables it to be lifted against the spring force by a tool (33) inserted at the side.
