A method of piston ring cutting/splitting is automated to improve a productivity. While the center (01) of cutting/splitting of works (24) laminated in the axial direction is kept eccentric with respect to a B axis which is parallel to the axis described above, both ends of the works are clamped from above and below by upper work support means (22) and lower work support means (23) and under this state, the work (24) are index-rotated with the B axis being the center. After the first cutting/splitting position is indexed, a rotating cutter (16) is raised in a direction of Z axis which is parallel to the B axis and then the works (24) are cut and split by the cutter (16) from one of their ends. After this cutting/splitting process, the works (24) are again index-rotated with the B axis being the center to index the next cutting/splitting position. The rotating cutter (16) is then moved again in the Z axis direction so as to conduct cutting/splitting of the next cutting/splitting position. In this manner, the cutting/splitting process is automated to improve the productivity.
