PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate in detail spatial orientation of an empty grid point and to obtain a high accurate interpolation amount with regard to an interpolation device for performing an interpolation of picture on which a grid point for outputting a predetermined color and an empty grid point not for outputting the color concerned in a checkered pattern and a recording medium recording an interpolation processing program for such a picture. SOLUTION: These devices are composed of a correlation amount calculation part 48 for taking correlation between an individual picture element output of at least three grid points out of grid points adjacent to an empty grid point and the picture element output of each grid point arranged in a position which shifts these grid points to four directions of up-and-down and right-and-left, a similar direction identification part 49 for identifying a direction in which the correlation is strong on the basis of the amount of correlation for each direction, and an interpolation amount calculation part 50 for deciding the amount of interpolation between empty grid points based on the picture element output of the grid point in which the correlation is stronger out of the grid points adjacent to the empty grid points. |
