PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device that can pick up an image of an object at a proper controlled level at all times even in the case that a range finding point differs from a reflection luminous quantity point. SOLUTION: A 2nd switch is closed to set an exposure condition (S21, S22), after an external light photometry value D1 (n) is calculated (S23), light is preliminarily lighted (S24) to calculate a strobe photometric value D2 (n) (S25). Then a 1st weighting value W1 (n) is calculated on the basis of the range finding point from the range finding information (S26), and subtracting the external light photometry value D1 (n) from the strobe photometric value D2 (n) calculates a 2nd weighting value W2 (n) (S27). After calculating the exposure condition of the main exposure (S28), a luminance differenceΔEV is calculated from a proper level by taking the 1st weighting value W1 (n) and the 2nd weighting value W2 (n) into account (S29), and when theΔEV is within a prescribed range, the light emission time is calculated to start main exposure and main light emission (S30-S38).
