<p>Title cpds. have formula (I): (where R is H or lower alkyl), which have sympathomimetic activity and can be used for treating hypotensive states, are prepared in a simple manner and in improved yields by reducing the nitro and carbonyl groups of a compound of formula (II): in a single step (pref. by catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of Pd/C) to the amino and hydroxymethylene groups, respectively, and converting the aromatic NH2 group of the reduction product into the OH group by selective diazotisation and thermolysis of the resulting diazonium salt.</p> |
