The arrangement includes an operating unit consisting of several operating elements located at an user interface, which are respectively associated with a symbol for a visual indication of a function of the corresponding operating element, and a display unit to for the display of the functions corresponding to the operating elements. At least one operating element (3) and/or an area directly adjacent to the operating element, is equipped with devices for the display (11) of an input value (14) entered through the operating element. The operating unit (1) comprises preferably an authorization field (4), in which the operating elements are associated with the display fields, and which is arranged in a deepening of a casing wall of the data processing instrument.
