The position of the first end surface (7) of a plank moving on a cross-transporter is determined by beams or waves which either reach the surface directly or an indicator on it. They are reflected and detected, pref. by a combination of a laser (5) and a camera (6). The same system is used to determine the position of the other end surface of the plank, or it is achieved by a positioning process. This entails a stop (10) with a predetermined position for the other end surface (8). The end surface comes into contact with the stop, and a roller track (11) is used to displace the plank in its longitudinal direction. Straight edges (13) or similar are used for holding the plank (3) down for the determn. process for at least one of the end surface positions. In the lowest position of the straight edge a part of the plank end surface remains free for contact by the beams or waves. |
