PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of improving image quality by providing an appropriate screen for an image including a highlight portion and an intermediate to high-density portion. SOLUTION: An image processing unit 30 comprises: an input section for inputting image data; a density determination section 321 for separating an image in the image data into a highlight portion and a region other than the highlight portion based on a density value corresponding to a crossing of CinDout characteristics between a screen having the first number of lines and a screen having the second number of lines more than the first number of lines; a screen processing section 36 for performing screen processing by setting the screen having the first number of lines to the highlight portion and setting the screen having the second number of lines to the region other than the highlight portion; and a RAM 70 for storing, in a rewritable manner, the crossing of CinDout characteristics between the screen having the first number of lines and the screen having the second number of lines.
