PURPOSE: A stereoscopic image photographing device is provided to achieve improved optical efficiency of stereoscopic image signal by optimizing the polarization direction of polarizing beam splitter and LCD. CONSTITUTION: A polarization converting unit comprises a total reflector mirror(11) inclined at a predetermined angle for an incidence of non-polarizing beam from an object(1); a vertical LCD(20) including a first polaroid plate(21) for passage of only the P-wave from among the non-polarizing beam incident from the total reflector mirror, a liquid crystal(23) contacting the inner surface of the first polaroid plate, and which is formed of a plurality of cells, such that the P-wave passed through the first polaroid plate is converted into an S-wave after rotating at an angle of 90 degrees, and a second polaroid plate(22) for passage of the S-wave passed through the liquid crystal; a horizontal LCD(30) including a first polaroid plate(31) for passage of only the S-wave from among the non-polarizing beam incident from the object, a liquid crystal(33) contacting the inner surface of the first polaroid plate, and which is formed of a plurality of cells, such that the S-wave passed through the first polaroid plate is converted into a P-wave after rotating at an angle of 90 degrees, and a second polaroid plate(32) for passage of the P-wave passed through the liquid crystal; and a polarizing beam splitter(12) arranged in rear of the vertical LCD and the horizontal LCD such that the polarizing beam splitter is parallel to the total reflector mirror, wherein the polarizing beam splitter has a coated surface(12a). The polarizing beam splitter is disposed, such that the S-wave having a high reflectivity and which is emitted from the vertical LCD, is reflected at one surface of the polarizing beam splitter, at a right angle with respect to the incidence direction, while the P-wave having a high permeability, and which is emitted from the horizontal LCD, is incident at the other surface of the polarizing beam splitter. |
