PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing metal manganese of high quality from a recovered Mn-containing substance.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing metal manganese using an arc melting furnace where an Mn-containing substance is mixed with a reducing agent and a flux, the mixture is charged to an arc melting furnace, and the Mn-containing substance is reduced by the reaction heat of conduction heating and/or the reducing agent so as to be metal Mn. As the reducing agent, metal Al or metal Si is used, in the reduction step, a high voltage operation is adopted for avoiding the contact among the inclusions, the molten metal and electrodes, the reduction step being a two step reduction process made of the primary reduction and the finish reduction, the contact between the molten metal and the electrodes is suppressed, in the case where the intrusion of carbon and metal Al is used as a reducing agent, upon aluminum thermit reaction, conduction is stopped, and overheating is prevented. Ozone is acted on a leach liquor obtained by leaching Mn included in a waste dry batter to oxidize-precipitize the Mn ions included in the leach liquor, and the Mn-containing precipitates are separated to use the Mn precipitates as raw material.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
