A description is given of a flat gasket consisting of a support with graphite packing material applied to both sides and a secondary seal on the oxygen side to provide protection against burn-off, this gasket being characterised in that the support arranged between the graphite layers protrudes beyond the region of the sealing surfaces on the oxygen side and either itself forms a secondary seal by virtue of suitable shaping or serves as a support for a secondary packing material applied in addition.
