PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus with a detection sensor capable of suppressing erroneous dissolution of a waste liquid detection state, and reducing a fear that the waste liquid leaks into the apparatus.SOLUTION: A recording apparatus comprises: a recording head for discharging liquid toward a medium to be recorded; a waste liquid receiving part for receiving the liquid to be discharged from the recording head as waste liquid; a waste liquid absorber for absorbing the waste liquid to be transmitted from the waste liquid receiving part; a waste liquid absorber accommodation part having a plurality of sidewalls surrounding the circumference of the waste liquid absorber, and for accommodating the waste liquid absorber; and a reflection sensor for detecting the waste liquid absorbed by the waste liquid absorber at a predetermined liquid level in the waste liquid absorber via a light transmitting part provided at least at a part of the sidewalls.
