Paper-making suction deflection roller - has carrier rod through roller journal for valve body working with opening in intermediate wall

The suction guide roller for a paper web in a papermaking machine, at the drying cylinder assembly, has a valve body (56) at the intermediate wall (54) within the roller mantle (41) to develop a temporarily higher underpressure at the edge roller chamber, supported externally (44) through a carrier rod (57). The carrier rod (57) passes through the roller journal (42) towards the opening (55) in the intermediate wall (54). The valve body (56) together with the opening (55) coaxial to the mantle (41), gives a contact free valve assembly. The carrier rod (57), together with the valve body (56) is pref. set on a line parallel to the rotary axis of the deflection roller (31). The carrier rod is rigidly fixed to the external mounting, and the valve body in relation to the rod. The hollow roller journal (42) is linked to a suction channel (50) through a channel connected to the swing lever (44) and a channel through the swing bearing (45). The hollow roller journal (42) extends into the interior of the hollowed swing lever (44), to rotate within it, and the swing lever (44) supports the carrier rod (57). ADVANTAGE - The valve assembly requires no control lines which would have to pass from a stationary outer zone to the interior of the roller mantle.
