<p>A tube launched projectile (10) having a shaft member (20) at the aft section is slidably mounted on a boom (30) extending aft from the body of the projectile (10). The boom (30) has a cavity (34) in its aft end which receives some combustion gas from the projectile propellant burn and retains this gas at elevated pressure until the projectile (10) exits the tube. Upon reaching atmospheric pressure, the stored cavity gas expands and drives the slidable shaft aft, elongating the projectile (10) to its flight configuration.</p> |
