PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high-purity 5-ethyl-2-(1,1-dimethyl-2-hydroxyethyl)-5-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxane having high purity of trans substance. SOLUTION: The method for producing high-purity 5-ethyl-2-(1,1-dimethyl-2-hydroxyethyl)-5-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxane comprises reacting trimethylol propane with hydroxypivalic aldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst, and the method satisfies specific conditions.
