PURPOSE:To produce the titled whisker at low cost in a short time by calcining a powdery mixture, which is obtained by mixing a TiO2 compd. with an alkali compd., at a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:The powdery mixture is obtained by mixing the TiO2 compd. having <=5mum mean particle size with the alkali compd. having >=10mum mean particle size (e.g. potassium carbonate anhydrate) in the mol ratio of (2:1)-(7:1) with a high speed shearing mixer in the presence of a dispersing agent (e.g. sodium hexametaphosphate), if necessary. Then the mixture is calcined at the calcining temp. under the melting temp. of the alkali titanate (900-1,350 deg.C) for ten odd min.
