A process of heat and/or light-stabilising of vinyl halide polymers and stabilised vinyl halide compositions in which as the stabiliser is used the reaction product of a metal compound and a polyol in stoichiometric amounts in the presence of a catalyst at 120-275 DEG C, preferably 120-230 DEG C. Preferably, the metal compound is zinc oxide and the polyol is glycerol, pentaerythritol and the like. Also heat and/or light stabilisers comprising the reaction product and the reaction product per se are claimed.
