PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door device having a self-closing function, a simple structure, an improved aesthetic appearance of the whole device, and also a large entrance near the ceiling surface. SOLUTION: This sliding door device comprises: a fitting projecting piece fitted, from the inspection side, between a projecting connection seat attached to the upper end entrance side inner surfaces of a door end side vertical frame and an inspection side intermediate frame 3 and the lower surface of a base plate side lower projecting part 721; and an inspection side closing plate 74 so formed in a generally upwardly opened U-shape in cross section that the lower surface side is screwed to the projecting connection seat, projecting to the sliding door side, and closing the inspection side of an entrance upper part. With the inspection side closing plate 74 dismounted, the sliding door is detachable from the entrance side. With the sliding door attached to a rail member 5, the sliding door device is positioned between the rail member 5 and the sliding door upper end surface so that the adjustment part 92 of a brake device can be attached.
