PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical liquid crystal aligning agent that is superior in a voltage holding ratio and static electricity relaxing properties and superior in the peeling property, when a substrate is regenerated and to provide a vertical type liquid crystal display element having display performance of high quality. SOLUTION: The vertical liquid crystal aligning agent contains an imidized polymer of a polyamic acid, having a specified structure wherein the number a of imide units and the number b of amic acid units satisfy a/(a+b)≥0.91. The vertical type liquid crystal display element is provided with a liquid crystal alignment layer formed, by using the vertical type liquid crystal aligning agent. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
