PROCESS FOR THE COMBINED INCINERATION OF SEWAGE SLUDGE AND REFUSE

The purpose of the invention is to develop a process in which sewage sludge from communal and industrial waste water treatment installations can be incinerated together with refuse in refuse incineration plants with the least possible damage to the environment, a favourable energy balance and simple technical means. According to the invention, the sewage sludge (4), pre-dewatered to a dry matter content of 20 to 30 % is taken into a rotary kiln (1) and a couterflow of flue gas (7) from a refuse incineration plant (2) at 600 to 900 .degree. C, is passed through the rotary kiln. The vapours (8) thus formed are injected into the refuse incineration plant (2) for subsequent burning and thus reduce the formation of nitrogen oxides during refuse incineration.
