The method involves adjusting a clutch torque in such a way that an operating point (38), fixed by frictional power characteristic data marking a frictional power of the friction clutch and friction work characteristic data marking a friction work of the friction clutch, does not leave a permissible operating range. A load characteristic data marking a load of the friction clutch is determined and the permissible operating range is changed depending on the load characteristic data. An independent claim is also included for a unit for the control of a friction clutch of a power shiftable automatic gearbox of a motor vehicle.
