Roll stand for rolling installations

The roll stand for rolling a strip (1) is provided with at least one pair of working rolls (2, 3) and thrust blocks (12-15) supporting working rolls horizontally over a region which is not smaller than the maximum strip width. Displacement devices (20, 21) horizontally displace the working rolls, and are attached to the thrust blocks (12-15). The rolling method includes the following steps: (a) measurement of the horizontal forces on the thrust blocks by means of force sensors (24, 25); (b) control of the thrust generated by the units (22, 23) in accordance with the forces measured.
