The heating assembly, with a burner in a combustion chamber (10), has a following heat exchanger (11) with an integrated thermal barrier (15). The barrier takes up heat to give an abrupt change to the density of the exhaust gas, and forms at least a part of the passage channels for the combustion gas in the heat exchanger. The barrier is of a metal or ceramic material, and is permeable to the combustion and exhaust gases.
