<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound for use in eye care preparations in order to reduce keratitis of Acanthameoba by the presence of protozoa and the development of other ocular pathogens. <P>SOLUTION: A method for producing a compound which can chelate multivalent cations comprises a step of reacting a compound which can react with epoxides with a compound represented by formula (IV) [wherein R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>7</SP>, R<SP>8</SP>and R<SP>9</SP>each independently denote H or a 1-6C alkyl group; n denotes an integer of 0-18; A denotes H or an alkali metal cation; x denotes 2 or 3; and y denotes 0 or 1, provided that y denotes 0 or 1 when x is 2 and y denotes 1 when x is 3]. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
