The clamp consists of a body (1) with two independently-pivoted jaws (3, 4) able to move apart against the action of a spring, and spaces to release the jaws between the sides of the jaws and the body. The greater part of the spaces, at least towards the outside of the clamp, is filled with a flowing elastic material (8) having a rigidity which varies with the speed of its compression, such as silicone rubber EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) or PDMS (Poly Dimethyl Siloxane). It can have a filling of an organic or mineral substance such as pyrogenated or colloidal silica or talc. The rigidity of the material at a relatively slow compression speed is such that the elastic return force is only a fraction of that produced by the clamp's spring. |
