PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a customer to know the total purchase amount of articles to be purchased at a desired time. SOLUTION: When the customer desires to know the total purchase amount of articles, the customer inserts a card 4 on which the total purchase amount of articles checked last is stored into a card reader/writer 31 and a card data read part 22a reads it. When the customer makes a scanner 32 read the PLU code of the article to be purchased, a retrieval part 332 requests a server 1 to retrieve the price of the article corresponding to the PLU code. The price of the article sent back from the server 1 is added to the total purchase amount of the articles read by a card data read part 311 and the result is displayed as a new total purchase amount on a display 34. The new total purchase amount is overwritten to the card by a card data write part 334. |
