<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a hydrogen storage material with a low hydrogen releasing temperature. <P>SOLUTION: Either one or both of MgH<SB>2</SB>and metal Mg, and LiNH<SB>2</SB>are weighed in a manner that the molar ratio of Mg and Li is adjusted to be Mg:Li=1:(1.2 to 2.4) and further LiH is weighed in a manner that the molar ratio of Mg and Li in the total when LiH is added is adjusted to be Mg:Li=1:(2.2 to 6) and they are pulverized and mixed. Next, the sample obtained by mixing and pulverizing treatment is heated at a prescribed temperature under hydrogen atmosphere and kept for a prescribed time to obtain a hydrogen storage material.
