Disclosed is a low-cost R-T-B-M-A system rare earth permanent magnet which has improved coercivity (Hcj) without being decreased in residual magnetic flux density (Br) by controlling nitrogen (N), carbon (C), oxygen (O) and hydrogen (H) to appropriate amounts. Specifically disclosed is a rare earth permanent magnet material which is mainly configured of an R2T14B compound that contains 24-34% by mass of R, 63-74% by mass of T and 0.5-1.5% by mass of B with the balance made up of M and A. The trace elements A are 1,100-2,000 ppm of C, 10 ppm or less of H, 1,300-2,000 ppm of O and 150 ppm or less of N. The rare earth permanent magnet material is pulverized in an inert gas atmosphere and has an average particle diameter of 2-5 µm. |
