The web material, to be applied to a surface, is composed of at least two layers (A,B) over each other, bonded together so that they can be separated mechanically. Also claimed is a mfg. process where initially a layer is applied to a surface of paper, plastics, synthetic fibres or wool. The outer surface of the first layer gives a visual patterning (11) and the outer surface of the other layer is carrier (9). The combined layers form a single layer (b) with a patterning side (11) and a carrier (9) to be applied to the carrier surface (7) to the other layer (A). Pref. one layer (A) has an adhesive surface to cling to the support surface (1) to be covered where there is an adhesive layer (5) to bond the carrier surface (7) of the layered material (A,B). The carrier surfaces (7,9) are mechanically bonded together. One carrier surface (7) is a felting and the other surface (9) is fitted with hooks (9a).The layer (B) is at least of paper plastics, synthetic fibres or wool, and its two layers can be separated mechanically. USE/ADVANTAGE - The material is used as a wall covering, such as a wallpaper, or a floor covering as a carpeting. The material gives a patterning layer which can be removed easily and replaced.
