The method for aligning a sheet-form medium (3b,3b) which is transported in a transporting device entails determining an angular offset (WV) and/or eccentricity (AM) of the medium with regard to the transporting device by using a scanner. A dwell time is calculated by a control unit based on the determined angular offset and/or eccentricity, and the medium is aligned by angular displacement with regard to the transporting device by using a rotational holding point device which is activated during the period of the calculated dwell time. An independent claim is included for an aligning device for aligning sheet-form medium, especially a bank note or receipt, which is transported in a transporting device of a self-service device.
