An apparatus and a method for cooling a plating solution in a hot dip galvanizing bath are provided to improve coating quality of coated steel sheet and manufacture a coated steel sheet having high quality ultimately by preventing temperature of the plating solution in the hot dip galvanizing bath from increasing and constantly maintaining the temperature of the plating solution. An apparatus(1) for cooling a plating solution in a hot dip galvanizing bath comprises: a plating solution circulating unit(10) including a plating solution suction nozzle(12) which is installed in a plating bath(120) filled with a plating solution for continuous coating of a steel sheet(100), and which is disposed at one side or both sides of the steel sheet supplied into the plating bath to circulate the plating solution; and a plating solution cooling unit(30) which is linked to the plating solution circulating unit and disposed on an inner part or an outer part of the plating bath to cool the circulating plating solution, wherein the suction nozzle of the plating solution circulating unit is disposed in a steel sheet supply region of the plating solution between a snout(110) linked to the plating bath and rolls(124,124') of the plating bath. The plating solution circulating unit includes a plating solution circulating pipe(14) linked between the suction nozzle and the plating solution cooling unit, and the plating bath to recirculate cooled plating solution into the plating bath.
