PURPOSE: To easily and sharply form various kinds of display on the surface of a medium by forming a protective layer which is opaque to light. CONSTITUTION: The optical recording medium is produced by successively forming at least a light-absorbing layer, reflecting layer and protective layer on a transparent substrate. In the optical recording medium, the protective layer is made opaque to light. The total transmittance of the protective layer is controlled to <=50%, preferably to <=30%. Thereby, the loss in the color effect of a display formed on the protective layer due to the light from the reflecting layer can be prevented. Since the influences of the light-reflecting layer decreases with the smaller total transmittance of the protective layer, it is preferable to control the total transmittance of the protective layer as small as possible. |
