METHOD FOR SEPARATING, PURIFYING AND CONCENTRATING PHOSPHATIDYLINOSITOL

PURPOSE:To readily separate and purify high-purity phosphatidylinositol in good yield according to only simple liquid-liquid partitioning operation using an inexpensive solvent by extracting a phosphatidylinositol-containing raw material under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:A phosphatidylinositol-containing raw material is dissolved in a nonpolar solvent such as n-hexane and then brought into contact with a hydrous polar solvent (e.g. an ethanol solution with 40-60% water content) containing a basic substance such as sodium hydroxide (the concentration is preferably 0.5-4mol based on 1mol concentration of the raw material and the pH is 8.0-10.0). The resultant nonpolar solvent layer is then subjected to liquid- liquid partition using a new hydrous polar solvent without containing the basic substance. Thereby, the phosphatidylinositol is extracted into the hydrous polar solvent layer, separated and purified.
