The invention relates to a roller system having a detachable insert, and more specifically a system enabling the use of different types of paint rollers. The invention provides an insert that can be removed from and fitted onto the roller mounting. This allows the use of paint rollers without any insert, by letting the inventive insert remain on the mounting, and of paint rollers having their own built-in insert, by removing the inventive insert from the mounting. The roller system comprises a mounting (1) with a handle (3) and a transversal section (2) supporting an insert (4), in turn supporting a paint roller (5). According to the invention the insert (4) is slidable onto the transversal section (2) and is held on said transversal section through friction at its inner circumference, at the same time as the insert is easily rotatable around the transversal section. The paint roller (5) is in turn held in place on the external circumference of the insert (4) by friction. The detachable insert preferably comprises a sleeve (10), equipped with an internal clamping ring (6) providing high friction against the mounting but low friction against the sleeve, allowing the latter to roll easily.
