Compounds of formula wherein n is 1 to 6 and R1 is a radical or a radical of formula in which R2 is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, R3 is hydrogen or the radical Cl 3 CCH(OH)-, X is halogen, cyano, nitro or C 1-5 alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl or haloalkenyl, and m is 0 to 4, are prepared by reaction of chloral with an appropriate amine or alcohol. The products have herbicidal activity.
