<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for calculating an image difference by which a processing load accompanying a memory access and calculation for calculating a pixel value at a half-pixel position can be reduced, and to provide a motion detector and an image data compression device. <P>SOLUTION: The method for calculating an image difference is for calculating a difference between a current image and a past reference image before the current image in prescribed region units. The pixel value is read out from a memory in the vertical direction of the reference image while successively reading out the pixel value at an integer pixel position in the order of the arrangement of the integer pixel positions, in the horizontal direction of the reference image from the integer pixel position, outside a prescribed region set to the reference image. Whenever the pixel value at the integer pixel position in the prescribed region is read out, the pixel values are calculated at a plurality of the half-pixel positions which are specified by the integer pixel position and that of read out in the past and adjacent to the integer pixel position. The difference is calculated between any one of the pixel values at a plurality of the half-pixel positions of the reference image and the pixel value corresponding to it at the integer pixel position of the current image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
